Did Obama’s Campaign Seek Subliminal Approval from Carbonfund and USA Waterpolo Supporters?

I love the guy, and his candidacy and win was amazing for this country and as a fulfillment of the great promise of democracy… but this has been nagging at me for a while. Many before me have already pointed out that the Carbonfund logo, which preceded the Obama campaign logo, was nearly identical in design. But then this weekend I rode past a car with an old-school USA Waterpolo sticker (design image also below), and thought “…so that’s where I originally saw that design…”. I found more than one or two folks via the big G who noticed the US Waterpolo similarities previously and called it out as well. And even though the Obama campaign logo designer didn’t cop to any “inspiration” in his NYTimes interview here, several follow-on commenters called out these comparisons in the thread. Anyway, for your all-in-one-place visual comparison pleasure, here they are in order of logo design history:

Now here’s a Seattle forecast you don’t often see…

… at least during early June, which is usually not-so-summery.  A little extra time in the morning slathering sunblock on my progeny, I guess.

Last evening was a great reminder of why i love living here

It was still 70 degrees for the evening sunset over the Olympics last night. Me and ML left the peanuts to the sitter at 7:30 and headed out on our bikes: around the top of Lake Union with Rainier towering over downtown; first stop: Nickerson Saloon for an outdoor microbrew; rode back over the cut (pic of sunset with boats waiting on the Fremont drawbridge below) and up Wallyhood Ave to Cantinetta for Hood Canal oysters and house-made sausage; rode up the hill back to the casa in the dark, and didnt even need our coats. Perfect.

I don’t know why this is funny

because I don’t often find technology funny. Usually I find it cold, precise, and occasionally very wrong in the way that only improperly constructed math equations can be wrong (not 9th grade “show your math get 5-out-of-10 points” wrong but “that number is the wrong answer” wrong). But somehow, while shopping tonight on the most rad technology-enabled service ever, Amazon Fresh, I found the “Show Only” options which accompany Butter to be… funny.

Peanut Butter Jelly Time

This is an oldie, but a goodie. Never fails to entertain my 4 year old either.

The Classics Never Go Out of Style…

Here is the cement-carving sidewalk inscription that some chucklehead put in wet cement who-knows-when, at a corner just shy of my kiddos school. It never fails to make me laugh. Some things are so simple, so classic, so timeless, that they just can’t be improved upon.

We’re #4! We’re #4!

Well, I guess we need to do a better job with drying our clothes naturally (um, it’s kind of moist here most of the time) and driving less over short distances (I’d like to see you chug your fixies up and down all these freaking hills, pdx hipsters). On the plus side, though, we totally pwn pdx and the rest of the country when it comes to re-using our tin foil.

Quote of the day from office

“They do not mosh, they just headbang.”

Me, Andy, Blake, Geno, and Spike at the Delano

…on Wednesday night in Miami Beach, enjoying late night cocktails by the infinity pool. I swear. I know I know, it’s kind of hard to see. Trust me.
